Becoming a BD Matters Local Champion

Thank you for sharing an interest in becoming a local champion of our community. We’re excited about the journey we’re about to embark on together.

BD Matters has always been about championing business developers and supporting them on their growth journeys. Customer journeys, buyers, technology, skills, mental health are all transforming, and our BD Matters community provides a safe space for members to learn and grow together.

Why do these roles exist?

This community is nothing without the mentors and local champions that represent it, and that’s where you come in. Your local community is super important and often more so than our global online community. Being able to meet face-to-face, be in the same time zone, and share cultural connections make for much stronger relationships. That’s why we created local champion roles.

The power of community is down to its people; making connections and sharing knowledge.

We currently have confirmed local champions for:

  • London

  • Leeds

  • Bristol

  • Exeter

  • Southampton

  • New York

  • Munich

What would be expected of you?

  • Hosting and facilitating an online meet-up each month (could be less regular if required) around people’s business development challenges.  We call these BD Natters - for more info on these read here.

  • Hosting physical meet-ups in your local area (maybe 1 or 2 per year).  These could be a drinks, dinners, women’s brunches, Summer/Christmas parties, fun games out etc. You get the idea.

  • Support us on our social channels!  We have an active Slack community which we would love for you to be a part of to share ideas, questions and respond to others well as commenting and sharing any of our social content.

In terms of events logistics - we will do a lot of the heavy lifting. We’ll pick up any bills, tabs, pre-booking etc. We might ask for your help in venue recommendations but then we’ll handle the rest. In terms of invites and driving sign ups, we’ve got this covered too. Whilst we would encourage you to share the events on your social channels and within your network, we won’t put any onus on you or requirements you have to hit.

We expect you to act in good faith and not do anything to damage or harm the reputation of BD Matters. We reserve the right to remove you from our local champions programme if we believe this to be the case. We’ll also put in regular reviews to ensure the arrangements still work for both parties. In some instances, we may have more than one local champion per region and we would encourage this to help ease workload and commitments, bounce ideas off each other and act as co-facilitator at online meet-ups to spark conversation.

What do you get out of it?

  1. Support the BD community! Feel good about giving back. Be there for those who need it support the next generation of business developers and help improve the perception of sales.

  2. Boost your profile: We’ll shout about how great you are. We’ll put your face on our website with links to your profile, and you’ll appear in our bulletin and social posts.

  3. Generate leads and be seen as a thought leader:  You can host masterclasses and other events which could open doors for you, bring you new business leads and generally be seen as a go-to person in the industry.

What would the next steps be?

  • Agree you want to be a local champion and which region you will be ‘looking after’. As we expand this may change based on being more granular with regions.

  • Send over your headshot and bio so we can add you to the BD Matters website.

  • Update your LinkedIn profile with your new role.

  • We’ll create a designed asset to announce your role and this will go into social posts and our bulletin.

  • Create a ‘launch’ online meet-up event to gauge the level of interest. From this we can agree on the regularity of the sessions and what people may want from them.

  • You can then announce your role to your local network.
